Established in 1917 and registered as an employers’ organisation under the Workplace Relations Act 1996, Live Performance Australia’s activities centre around three core areas:
- Workplace Relations
- Policy & Strategy
- Membership Services & Events
Live Performance Australia’s “Ticket Attendance and Revenue Survey - Live Entertainment in Australia” reveals that in 2004 the industry sold approximately 12.5 million tickets and generated a total gross box office of almost $690 million.
The Live Performance Australia 3 Year Strategic Plan (2005-2007) pursues five key strategies:
- Partnership - building partnerships with existing bodies in the Australian live entertainment and performing arts industry, to enable the industry to speak with a strong and united voice;
- Promote - positioning the Australian live entertainment industry in the marketplace and with key decision makers in government and business to maximise the engagement of those stakeholders;
- Persuade - developing a proactive and united policy platform for the industry to present to government with one voice;
- People - ensuring the workplace relations practices within the industry maximise the viability and efficiency of our members whilst ensuring the industry is able to attract and retain the best people; and
- Plan - articulating the long term plan for the Australian live entertainment industry.
In 2005/2006, our energies are focusing on the first four of these strategies, as we continue to build the necessary solidarity, knowledge base and strategic thinking to feed a long-term industry plan.
Each year Live Performance Australia recognises the pinnacle of live entertainment in Australia by conducting the prestigious Helpmann Awards, which incorporates the JC Williamson Award for outstanding contribution to the Australian live performance industry.
