Australian Entertainment Industry Association rebranded as Live Performance Australia™ (LPA)
From 1 July 2006, the Australian Entertainment Industry Association (AEIA) is known as Live Performance Australia™ (LPA). The new Live Performance Australia™ name and logo were officially launched Monday 26 June 2006 on the stage of the Lyric Theatre, Star City, together with the announcement of nominations and launch of the 2006 Helpmann Awards®.
Growing The Australian Live Performance Industry
The adoption of the new brand represents our increasing responsibility – as the industry peak body – to build a more attractive live entertainment and performing arts industry. The new name and logo have been developed following extensive research which links the unique emotion and power of the “live” experience with the quality, artistry and entertainment of “performance”. The opportunity to grow the Australian live performance industry exists through connecting with everyone’s desire for the “live performance experience. Live Performance Australia plans to drive this growth by investing in key development programs in fields such as marketing, lobbying, workplace relations and encouraging a new generation of producers and investors. We will be providing our members with ongoing information and advice about our initiatives in these areas, including the Live Performance Australia™ Industry Development Program outlined in AEIA Circular 29–06 of 15 June 2006.
The Live Performance Australia™ Star Logo
Of course, the rebranding of the AEIA as Live Performance Australia™ involves the adoption of the Live Performance Australia™ logo, seen in the header to this circular. The creative rationale for the new logo –
developed by DNA Agency Network in Melbourne – is: “The star logo, we believe, is the strongest and the simplest of the logos presented for Live Performance Australia™. For an organisation that looks after such an array of live performance genres, it is difficult to find a single icon that represents all of them inclusively. And because the organisations within LPA are so diverse, it’s also difficult to represent them with one visual. The star logo solves this challenge by going beyond the specifics of each genre and uniting them. The star symbolises the performer, the performance and the experience for the audience.
“The star logo’s strength lies in its simplicity and the modern yet timeless feel it has. It’s a logo that will look just as fresh in 20 or 40 years time. The simple line element of the star denotes a feeling of freedom,
creative expression and energy. The loose illustration also fits with the unpredictability and uniqueness associated with live performance.”
We are confident that the Live Performance Australia™ logo will quickly become of mark of excellence in live performance. Formally, we will retain the name Australian Entertainment Industry Association, with the Live Performance Australia name and logo being trade marks of the AEIA.
