LPA STRATEGIC PLAN

2006
LPA 3 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN (2005 - 2007) - 2006 STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

On 3 September 2004, the LPA Executive Council adopted the LPA 3 Year Strategic Plan (2005 - 2007) that sets out to achieve 2 outcomes:

  • to firmly position the LPA as the champion of the Australian live performance industry; and
  • to ensure the service, advice, representation and leadership the LPA provides our membership remains very highly valued.

On 4 March 2005, the LPA Executive Council agreed to a comprehensive range of strategic initiatives to be implemented in 2005, being the first year of the plan.  Substantial progress has been made, especially in identifying the attributes of the live performance brand, current and future audience demand and policy priorities, as well as achieving industry and membership buy-in to our vision and objectives.

In September, the LPA Executive Council adopted a new 3 Year Strategic Plan for the LPA.  The plan will guide the LPA through the 3 year planning period from 2005 to 2007, when the LPA will celebrate our 90th anniversary.

The thoroughly researched and developed plan commits the LPA to playing a key role as the peak body for the Australian live entertainment industry and to addressing the “big picture” – the key matters that affect and drive the wellbeing of our industry in changing times.  At the same time, we will continue to develop and expand our range of membership services which, according to Sweeney Research, are so highly valued by our members.

Accordingly, the plan’s vision is also a vision for the Australian live entertainment industry:

Through the power of the live entertainment experience,
we will shape a creative future for Australia by contributing to our nation’s
cultural and economic wellbeing.

The plan aims to maximise the value government, business and the public attach to our industry on the basis of our industry’s contribution to the cultural, commercial and economic prosperity of our nation.  The plan requires the LPA to lead, promote and coordinate our industry so that Australia’s general population and key decision-makers in the public and private sectors value our industry’s economic and commercial significance in the same way as they presently value live entertainment in artistic, creative and social terms.

By working to ensure our industry is held in such high regard, the LPA will play an important role in securing the sustainable economic and commercial circumstances that will not only help protect our members’ futures, but also their ability to achieve artistic excellence and provide world class entertainment in Australian and global markets.

Accordingly, our members remain our central focus.  Membership buy in is essential to the LPA’s and the industry’s ability to implement the plan.

The plan defines the mission of the LPA in new terms:

“The mission of the Australian Entertainment Industry Association is to:

1. Peak Body
    be the peak body for the Australian live entertainment
    industry;
2. Influence
    present a strong, united and influential voice on behalf of
    our industry;
3. Membership
    provide outstanding representation, advice and service to
    our members;
4. Citizenship
    encourage the highest standards of professionalism and
    corporate citizenship in the management and conduct of
    our industry;
5. “Live”
    promote the value of live entertainment; and
6. Industry
    foster our industry’s wellbeing.”

The 6 mission elements give rise to 18 performance measures by which the LPA, our membership and the industry will be able to assess our performance over the life of the plan.  The plan also articulates 8 values of the LPA to maximise the quality of our decision-making.  For example, the value of diversity will guide us, as we see the artistic and commercial diversity and interdependence of our membership as a strength.  Playing a leadership role, long term thinking and a knowledge based approach will also guide our decision making.

The plan commits the LPA to implementing 5 key strategies:

1 - Partnership
To build effective partnerships with government, business, complementary industries, like minded bodies, fellow peak bodies in the Australian live entertainment industry and, of course, our members.

2 - Promote
To effectively promote the value of live entertainment and our industry with the general population and key decision-makers in the public and private sectors.

3 - Persuade
To effectively lobby government and authorities at all levels to secure the artistic, commercial and economic sustainability of the Australian live entertainment industry and our membership.

4 - People
To ensure the Australian live entertainment industry provides an industrial framework that furthers the economic viability and prosperity of our membership and enables our industry to develop and retain outstanding performers, managers and creative and technical professionals.

5 - Plan
To plan for our industry’s future.

Of course, the LPA needs to build our strategic platform - those factors that give us the voice, mandate, credibility and means to effectively implement our key strategies.  Ensuring high quality decision-making together with the development of our membership base, brand, communications and financial position are given specific attention in the plan.

The plan was presented in further detail to members at the 2004 LPA Annual General Meeting.
